Google Funny Street Views: Discreet Privacy

A couple of months ago, Google's web mapping service GOOGLE MAPS launched a new feature: Google Street View. A panoramic street level environment lets you descend from the sky and virtually travel through the streets. However, some very funny Google Street View images have surfaced on the internet raising privacy issues.

Consider for example, this image from the Chicago and you can see why we think Google Street Views are funny, yet concerning about privacy.

Already this publication has reported a lawsuit that a couple has filed against Google Street Views alleging that the service violates their privacy.

"Aaron and Christine Boring (yes, that's really their name) filed suit in Allegheny County court on April 2. The couple, who lives in Pittsburgh, says that there is a private road sign on their street that Google should have honored."

Patric Carlsson who writs for the Blog of Intellectual Capitals while explaining how useful Google Maps and Street Views can be contends that there are "some funny pictures to find aside from all the usefulness."

It's not known how many complaints Google Street Views will still receive and how is the company going to respond to them. However, one thing we are sure of is the fact that while many people are going to consider some of the Google Street Views to be funny, many others are going to think they are violating people's right to privacy.
